What a successful day at the University of Twente!

Last week, KonneXXions BV organised its first Laser Vibrometry Workshop: Damping from Macro to Nano Scale, under the Measuring By Light flag, together with Dario Di Maio.

Full house, with 30 participants from both industry and academia, creating a strong mix of profiles and discussions throughout the day.

The workshop combined theory and practice:

Morning sessions focused on damping behaviour across scales, from aerospace structures to nonlinear effects in micro/nano systems

I’m very thankful for all contributions from excellent speakers including Dario Di Maio (UTwente), Farbod Alijani (TU Delft), Benjamin van Elburg (NLR), Anastasiia Krushynska and Sidharth Beniwal (University of Groningen).

In the afternoon, participants joined hands-on lab sessions, working with top-notch systems such as the Polytec VibroScan QTec Xtra and the PSV-500 Xtra, including microscope-based measurements and full-field continuous scanning setups.

A big thank you to all speakers for sharing their expertise, to Simon Schäfer and Elmar Uhlitzsch from Polytec for their excellent expertise and support, and to the University of Twente for hosting us in their top-class facilities.

This workshop confirms the direction we want to take with Measuring By Light: smaller, focused workshops with real technical depth, live demonstrations and direct interaction.

We’ll get to work on organizing the next Measuring By Light specialized workshop.

About the Workshop

This full-day Laser Vibrometry Workshop is a Measuring By Light supported event, jointly organised with the University of Twente.

The workshop brings together academic researchers and industrial practitioners to explore damping phenomena across different scales, using Laser Doppler Vibrometry (LDV) as a key experimental tool.

The focus of the day lies on how laser vibrometry enables the experimental characterization of damping, resonance and wave phenomena, ranging from macro-scale mechanical structures to micro- and nano-scale systems.

Through a combination of invited scientific talks, theory-oriented insights, and hands-on laboratory demonstrations, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how single-point and scanning LDV techniques are applied in cutting-edge research and advanced engineering applications.

The workshop aims to bridge macro, micro and nano applications of LDV, highlighting the continuity between structural dynamics, metamaterials, and nanomechanical systems.
