Simone Gallas, is a researcher within the LMSD group of KU Leuven, specializing in numerical and experimental analysis for structural vibrations in mechatronic systems. He is completing his PhD at KU Leuven based on virtual sensing methods for the identification of structural joints. In structural joints it is challenging to obtain non-intrusive measurements at the interfaces of the assembled substrates. Virtual sensing strategies enable this type of estimation by coupling a limited number of external measurements with the mathematical model of the mechanical system under investigation.
