Giorgio Pagella
Field Of Expertise: Civil Engineering

Giorgio Pagella is a Civil (Structural) Engineer, Postdoc at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He obtained his MSc at University of Padova (IT) in 2019. Since 2020, he has been working on the mechanical characterization of ‘new’ and historical timber foundation piles in Amsterdam, by conducting destructive and non-destructive mechanical testing on the piles. The primary objective of the research is to gain insights into the behaviour and remaining service life of the historical foundations, enabling the planning of timely maintenance interventions in the city of Amsterdam after centuries of use; secondly, to study the application of timber foundation piles for contemporary structural design, contributing to the development of sustainable building techniques for engineering structures. Since 2022, Giorgio is member of the European COST action for the design of timber buildings. He has been working with European professionals for the assessment of timber damage in historical buildings.

Abstract: 'Analysis of in-situ stress distribution of timber foundation piles equipped with distributed fiber optic sensors (DFOS)'
